Aligarh Muslim University cancels 2021-22 entrance exams over rising COVID cases

The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has cancelled its entrance examinations for the academic year 2021-22 over a rise in COVID-19 cases, ANI reported quoting officials on Saturday. The entrance exams were scheduled to be held from June 20 to July 11.

A new examination schedule will soon be confirmed and uploaded on the official website, amucontrollerexams.com, AMU’s public relations officer, Omar Saleem Peerzada said.

In a statement, the university also advised students to leave hostels and return to their homes. “Due to rising cases of COVID-19 across India, the situation has become alarming and there is a danger of epidemic occurring in hostels also. Therefore, all the students are advised to leave the hostels and go to their respective homes,” the statement read.

AMU revised its COVID-19 guildelines on April 5, advising all teachers and faculty members above the age of 45 to get themselves vaccinated. 

It has also mandated the practise of wearing masks inside the campus, while restricting entry of non-university staff like vendors. 

The state of Uttar Pradesh on Friday recorded 9,587 new COVID-19 cases, as well as 36 virus-related deaths, taking those respective tallies to 6,63,991 and 9,039.
