In a recent podcast interview, Andrew Garfield confirmed that during the filming of Spider-Man: No Way Home last year, a food delivery guy had partially busted his Spider-Man: No Way Home surprise. The 38-year-old actor, who made a comeback in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home as his ‘amazing’ Spidey avatar, revealed he had just arrived in Atlanta when the incident occurred. The film crew had already begun filming in the city.

“This is my first night in Atlanta, and I’m with two of my best friends, one of whom is a cast member of The Walking Dead, which is currently filming in Atlanta. And we’re at the house where they’re putting me up, and I’ve ordered takeout for the two of us, and Covid is high, so I’ve ordered food. It’s my first night there, and I’m loving it. Everywhere I go, I get to wear a mask. I’m allowed to wear a hat. “No one is going to know I’m here, and I’m going to be really low-key and stuff,” he said on Josh Horowitz’s podcast Happy Sad Confused.

“So the guy comes to the door, the delivery guy, sweet seeming guy, nice seeming dude, and I open the door, I’ve got my mask on, my hat, and I’m like, ‘Thanks, man,” Andrew recalled the incident. Yo, yo, yo, I need to see your ID, he says. ‘Huh?’ I think to myself. ‘I need to see your ID,’ he says. ‘No delivery food thing has ever asked for my ID,’ I say. ‘This is intriguing.’

“And by the way, he’s kind of like really close to the door, and at this point, I’m super like, I’ve got to go to set tomorrow,” Andrew said of the DoorDash delivery guy, who was upset when he asked him to maintain social distance. I don’t want to risk a Marvel set being shut down in the middle of a pandemic. So I’m like, ‘Sure, give me a second.’ ‘Would you mind stepping back a few feet because of Covid and everything,’ he says, and he does. ‘Sorry, man, why do you need my ID?’ ‘So I can make sure it’s you,’ I say. First and foremost, my DoorDash account does not bear my name. ‘Yeah, because you have alcohol,’ he says. ‘No, I didn’t get any alcohol,’ I say. Man, I didn’t get any alcohol. ‘I went out and got some tacos.'”

“Lo and behold, the guy goes, ‘I just delivered food to Andrew Garfield,’ and I think he called me rude, which I definitely wasn’t,” Andrew added, referring to the person’s tweets from January 2021. The tweets sparked immediate speculation about Andrew’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was confirmed only after the film’s release.

Andrew also admitted to lying to his ex-girlfriend and co-star in The Amazing Spider-Man, Emma Stone, about his role in No Way Home on the podcast. Apart from Andrew, Tobey Maguire, who played Peter Parker in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films, also appeared in the latest Spider-Man film alongside Tom Holland.
