Who were Marilyn Monroe’s parents?

Gladys Baker was Marilyn Monroe’s mother. Her father’s identity was not known for a long time. However, Marilyn later said Charles Stanley Gifford was her father.

Gladys Baker and Charles Stanley Gifford, according to reports from The Sun. The two met at a film production company. Gladys never publicly claimed Gifford was Monroe’s father nor did she ever seek any support from him, The Daily Mail reported.

Gladys Baker reportedly got married three times. Marilyn Monroe’s birth certificate says Martin Edward Mortensen, Baker’s second husband, is her father. The couple split after four years of marriage.

The relationship between Charles Stanley Gifford and Marilyn Monroe was proven years after both of them died. The conclusive proof was found in a documentary called Marilyn, Her Final Secret (2022).

Forensic experts extracted DNA from Monroe’s hair that was still kept at the coroner’s office. The samples collected from Monroe’s hair and Charles Stanley Gifford’s grandaughter matched.

Sidney Skolsky, a journalist and Monroe’s friend, said that Monroe tried to contact her father in 1950. The two drove to Palm Springs, where Gifford lived on a local dairy farm, the Daily Mail reported.

“I’m married, I have children. I don’t want you to start any trouble for me”, Gifford told Monroe, according to Skolsky’s second hand accounts.
