Celebrities who lost their lives to COVID-19

The second wave of COVID-19 that is sweeping through India is setting new records every day with cases tally and a number of deaths. Many celebrities from the entertainment world have fallen to the deadly virus that has claimed three million lives worldwide in the past year.

Music composer Shravan Rathod was 66 when he passed away earlier this month. He along with Nadeem were the creators of many soulful romantic tracks of the 1990s. Their music in Bollywood hits ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ and ‘Saajan’ broke several records.

Actor Satish Kaul suffered complications after contracting COVID-19 and died on April 10. He was best known for his role in the 1973 romantic film ‘Prem Parbat’ and in the mythological series ‘Mahabharat’.

Kannada film producer Ramu died of COVID-19 complications too. He had produced more than 30 films under his Ramu Enterprises banner.

Tamil moviemaker Thamira, whose credits include ‘Aan Devathai’, died at a private hospital in Chennai. He  made his directorial debut in 2010 with ‘Rettaisuzhi’ and was admitted to a private hospital  in Chennai.

Veteran Marathi actor Kishore Nandalsarkar died at the age of 81 in Thane. He’d been battling COVID-19.

Hindustani classical musician Pt Rajan Mishra died of COVID-19 complications in the capital, New Delhi, Delhi on Sunday. Their friends and family were trying to find him a ventilator. He was 70-years-old and had been at the St Stephen’s Hospital for three days.

Terrence McNally, a four-time Tony Award-winning playwright, died on March 24 at the age of 81 of complications from the coronavirus. His works included “Master Class,” “Love! Valour! Compassion!” and “Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune,” which later became a film with Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino.

Italian actress Lucia Bosè, who starred in such films as Michelangelo Antonioni’s “Story of a Love Affair” (1950) and Juan Antonio Bardem’s “Death of a Cyclist” (1955), died on March 23 of pneumonia after contracting COVID-19.

Grammy-winning country music singer Joe Diffie died March 29 due to complications from the coronavirus.

American rock musician Alan Merrill, best known for co-writing and recording the original version of “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,” died March 29 of complications from the coronavirus. He was 69.

Sergio Rossi, the Italian shoe designer, died at age 84 after being hospitalized with the virus.

Last year, Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam, famously knows as SP Balasubrahmanyam died after fighting a long battle with COVID-19.
