Creating his own path: Irrfans journey from Bollywood to Hollywood
- The actor passed away in Mumbai on April 29 at the age of 53.
- In 2018, the actor was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour and was recovering from the disease after treatment in London.
Soon after his demise, The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, better known as the Oscars, honoured the actor.
Breaking the stereotypes reserved for brown people in Hollywood, Irrfan Khan seamlessly transitioned from Bollywood to Hollywood with his unconventional acting skills.
With big budget films like ‘Jurassic World’, ‘Inferno’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and crossover dramas such as ‘The Namesake’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘Life of Pi’, Irrfan was truly India’s first and biggest export to Hollywood.
Once while promoting ‘Inferno’, actor Tom Hanks said he wants to be cool like Irrfan.
After making a name for himself in Bollywood, he had gradually established himself in Hollywood too. But there was a time in the 1990s when Irrfan was mulling to quit showbiz.
Irrfan had once told IANS how his move to work in the Hollywood path was initially met with criticism.
“My colleagues and industry people always said ‘Hollywood mein kya hai’. But things have changed. Now, nationality is not important,” he had said to IANS.
He also starred in the 2017 film “The Song Of Scorpions”, and 2007 movie “A Mighty Heart”, which also featured Angelina Jolie, besides the Indo-German short film “The Cloud Door” (1994).
