‘Drishyam 2’, streaming on Amazon Prime Video, has been applauded for the kind of twists and turns the story plot has. With southern superstar Mohanlal reprising the role of Georgekutty, the sequel of the 2013 film ‘Drishyam’ is touted to be one of the best thrillers in Malayalam cinema.

In an interview with Film Companion, director Jeetu Joseph talks about how he conceptualizes such thrilling story plots. “… I read a lot of Agatha Christie’s novels and James Hadley Chase books, Sherlock Holmes… So, even during childhood, my passion for movies in the mystery and thriller genres was there,” he said.

The first part of the film talked about how Georgekutty (Mohanlal), a cable television operator, outsmarted the police investigating the murder of Varun Prabhakar, his daughter’s classmate.

‘Drishyam 2’ is the family story after six years in which Georgekutty is now a theatre owner and is writing a film.

Talking about what prompted him to come up with a sequel, Joseph told the film companion, “Immediately after Drishyam, everyone asked about the possibility of a sequel. I said, it’s finished and there’s no chance for a sequel because I was not seriously thinking about it.

“After a year or two, people started creating stories of their own and someone approached Viacom with a sequel. Around 2015, producer Antony Perumbavoor asked me to give it a try, and I started thinking about the possibilities. It took five years to reach this present scrip.”
