Late-night show host Jimmy Kimmel who is hosting the 72nd and the first-ever virtual Emmy Awards on Sunday was joined onstage by actor Jennifer Aniston. The Friends actor appeared onstage to present the award for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series.

To be a little extra cautious regarding coronavirus, the host sprayed the envelope with sanitiser. “You never know where these accountants’ hands have been,” Kimmel quipped.

“Now it goes into the basket and we light it up,” the host said, before putting the envelope on fire. He quipped that they needed to “wait five seconds” for “the germs to be burned off”.

Aniston doused the flame with a fire extinguisher and Kimmel picked up the charred envelope with a pair of tongs, only to realize that the fire had reignited.

“Oh shoot!” said Aniston as she tried dousing the flame, that reignited yet again. After her third attempt was she able to put out the fire.

“Jennifer Aniston puts out a fire and saves the Emmys,” tweeted Kimmel, who shared the clip of the whole act.

Aniston herself was nominated for outstanding lead actress in a drama series, for her portrayal of Alex Levy in Apple TV’s The Morning Show. The actor won her first Emmy in 2002  for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for her portrayal of Rachel Green in the popular sitcom Friends.

This year’s Emmys is unlike its previous editions as it is being held virtual due to the coronavirus pandemic. Kimmel is remotely hosting from an empty Los Angeles with celebs attending the event from their homes.
