Five patriotic films you can watch this Republic Day

Republic Day marks the implementation of the Indian Constitution. As India is set to celebrate its 73rd Republic Day on Wednesday, you can watch these memorable Bollywood films that will fill you up with patriotic fervour.

Raazi: A period drama thriller, based on true events, was released in 2018 and is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s novel, ‘Calling Sehmat’. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the story revolves around a secret agent from Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) who upon her father’s request, marries a Pakistani military officer during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Her only goal was to get important information for India from Pakistan.

The movie stars Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Soni Razdan in the lead roles.

Rang De Basanti: The film was released 15 years ago on Republic day. It showed a British girl, Sue, who visits India for her film project and chose a group of students to play several Indian freedom fighters. The process unwittingly awakens the feeling of patriotism in the students.

Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film reflects the emotional and mental process that converts them into rebels for a cause. Aamir Khan, Waheeda Rehman, Soha Ali Khan, R Madhavan played key roles in the film.

1971: A 2007 film about the struggle of six prisoners of war (POWs) of 1971 Indo-Pak war, who try to escape from a temporary but heavily-fortified prison camp to reach India’s border. In the process of escaping, five out of six soldiers die.

Directed by Amrit Sagar, the film stars Manoj Bajpai, Ravi Kishan, Deepak Dobriyal and Manav Kaul.

Border: Who can forget this popular film and its soulful song ‘Sandese Aate Hain’. It’s based real life events that happened during the 1971 Battle of Longewala. 

Directed by JP Dutta, the film featured a huge star cast including Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty and Tabu. It was released in 1997.

The Legend of Bhagat Singh: A 2002 biographical period film, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, revolves freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, who fought in India’s freedom movement along with his fellow mates of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association, Sukhdev and Rajguru. The film beautifully chronicles Bhagat’s life journey from his childhood when he witnesses the barbaric Jallianwala Bagh massacre which motivated him to become a freedom fighter until the day he was sentenced to death.

The film stars Ajay Devgan, Sushant Singh, Akhilendra Mishra in the key roles.
