The Recording Academy is currently unveiling the nominees for the 2024 Grammys, the most prestigious awards in the music industry. This announcement comes amidst the ongoing challenges many are facing, as people strive to make it through the week. Notably, there is a subtle nod to the exclusion of The Weeknd, an artist whose absence from previous nominations has sparked controversy. In an effort to streamline the process, the Academy has reduced the number of nominees for Album, Record, and Song of the Year, as well as Best New Artist, from ten to eight each.

This year introduces three new categories: Best Pop Dance Recording, Best African Music Performance, and Best Alternative Jazz Album. The diverse list of nominees is being unveiled by a mix of notable figures, including St. Vincent, Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, Muni Long, Kim Petras, and the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year, Jon Bon Jovi.

Interestingly, the announcement comes just days after a woman filed a lawsuit against former Recording Academy CEO Neil Portnow, accusing him of rape and alleging negligence on the part of the Academy. Despite this controversy, the Grammys are scheduled to take place on February 4, returning to the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
