Is Sean Avery in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer? Ex-ice hockey star’s rumored casting explored
Former New York Rangers forward Sean Avery has generated talk in the NHL after he was reportedly cast in Christopher Nolan’s epic biographical drama “Oppenheimer”.
Oppenheimer was released in theatres in the United Kingdom and the United States on July 21, 2023. The lead actor in the film, Cillian Murphy, portrays J. Robert Oppenheimer, who is considered the father of the atomic bomb.

Sean Avery plays a weatherman in the Oppenheimer movie. For the second straight time, Avery will show up in Christopher Nolan’s film. In Christopher Nolan’s last movie Tenet, he previously portrayed the main soldier on the Red team.
Avery retired from skating in 2012 and entered the creative and modeling fields. Avery played the role of former NHL player Bob Dill in the 2005 Maurice Richard biopic The Rocket: The Legend of Rocket Richard. He has had cameo appearances in other movies and has also played characters in a few biopics.
Avery is a native of North York, Ontario, Canada. He progressed through the NHL as an undrafted player before being signed as a free agent by the Detroit Red Wings in 1999.

He played 36 games for the Red Wings in his first season after making his NHL debut in 2001-2002. Avery was unable to have his name inscribed on the Stanley Cup when the Red Wings won it in 2002 because he did not participate in the playoffs and did not play in the 41 games necessary to have his name engraved on the Cup plate.
Avery played for the LA Kings for four seasons after playing for the Red Wings for two. He later played six seasons with the New York Rangers. Avery also spent 23 games with the Dallas Stars during a brief time with them.
