Jeff Garlin is leaving ‘The Goldbergs’ amid a series of allegations into his allegedly abusive conduct on set. Earlier this month, the 59-year-old comedian in an interview claimed he had not been fired from the long-running sitcom. Garlin, who played patriarch Murray Christian Goldberg on the ABC hit, admitted to Vanity Fair this month that he was facing a human resources department probe over the last three years due to his behavior. “He is extremely verbally and emotionally abusive,” an anonymous ‘Goldbergs’ employee told Deadline.

It was a mutual decision for Garlin not to return to the series, Deadline reported quoting sources. The comedian will not complete his work on the remainder of the sitcom’s ninth season.

The “Arrested Development” star has previously dismissed his antics as “silliness on set” that some cast and crew members don’t think as appropriate. “I do. That’s where we’re at,” he told Vanity Fair.

He added that he didn’t know how to “respond” to the accusations, “Because as a comedian, if somebody is offended by what I say I, all I can say is, ‘I’m sorry. OK?’”

Garlin was reportedly nearly sacked in 2019 due to inappropriate language during production.

Showrunners for “The Goldbergs” have yet to reveal if the show will be renewed for a 10th season in light of Garlin’s termination.

It’s also unclear if Garlin’s firing will impact his tenure on HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” where he serves as both a main cast member and executive producer.

The Goldbergs lost a series regular when George Segal died earlier this year.

According to eyewitnesses quoted by Deadline, executives came to the set to congratulate The Goldbergs cast and crew on the show’s 200th episode and address “the elephant in the room,” confirming Garlin’s exit.
