At his London sex assault trial on Thursday, Kevin Spacey referred to one of his victims as a backstabber and portrayed their private moments as entirely consensual while asserting that he’s just a “big flirt.”
The Oscar-winning actor described his relationship with one of the four men he is accused of sexually assaulting while testifying in Southwark Crown Court.
Spacey characterized the man as humorous, flirty, and engaging. He also described their relationship as “romantic” and “somewhat sexual.” Kevin further stated, “I really liked him. Together, we had a terrific time. We had a lot of fun.”
Kevin continued, “I never thought that (the man) I knew would … 20 years later stab me in the back,” which Spacey says “crushed” him emotionally.
Then Spacey said during his testimony that he was the more assertive partner in their union, adding, “I’m a flirt, I’m a big flirt.” He vehemently denied assaulting the man and insisted that everything was consensual.
Spacey explained to the jury that “it didn’t happen in a violent, aggressive, painful way,” adding, “It was gentle and it was touching and, in my mind, romantic.”
Kevin also stated that they never engaged in sex since the man made it plain he didn’t want to progress to that point. Spacey said in court that he “respected that” and brushed off the other accusations against him because, in his words, they “made no logical sense.”
Spacey further stated that his accusers were merely retaliating against him because they had second thoughts about having a sexual relationship with him.
Spacey has pleaded not guilty to 12 criminal charges, including indecent assault and causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent.
Between 2001 and 2013, four men in the UK have accused Spacey of groping them or engaging in oral sex with them.
