Netflix’s ‘Queer Eye’, HBO’s ‘The Apollo’ win big at Creative Arts Emmys Day 1

The Creative Arts Emmys, which is an event organised prior to the PrimeTime Emmy Awards telecast, kicked off on Monday night. ‘Queer Eye’ from Netflix and ‘The Apollo’ from HBO won the top awards as the event started. Usually an in-person event, this year, the Creative Arts Emmys are being presented virtually and comedian Nicole Byer is hosting it.

Among the other top winners VH1’s ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ and CNN Films’ ‘Apollo 11’ took the centre stage. ‘Queer Eye’ received its third consecutive Emmy in the category of ‘Outstanding Structured Reality Program’. Meanwhile, ‘The Apollo’ took home the award for ‘Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special’.

CNN’s ‘Apollo 11’ won three awards and ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ won its debut casting for a reality programme as well as the ‘Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured Reality’ or ‘Competition Program’.

Sir David Attenborough won his third consecutive Emmy Award for BBC America’s ‘Seven Worlds, One Planet: Antarctica’ this year. In 2019 and 2018, he had won the award for ‘Blue Planet II’ and ‘Our Planet’.

The 72nd Primetime Emmy Award is scheduled on September 20. Jimmy Kimmel will host the show, which will air on ABC.
