A fight broke out in the audience on Saturday night, bringing a halt to Detroit’s brand-new Riverfront Music Festival. R&B singer Monica had to leave the stage to intervene and break up the fight.

Social media videos show the 42-year-old musician leaving the Hart Plaza stage after what appears to be seeing a man hitting a woman. The singer yelled from the audience, “You don’t hit no f**kin’ lady like that.”

The audience cheered as Monica was helped back up to the stage. But it was clear the singer was unhappy with the incident.

“I want to apologize, ya’ll, that shit triggered me,” she said. “I seen him punch that lady in the face, I lost my f**kin’ temper. I apologize ya’ll. I apologize from the bottom of my heart.” She added, “I was gonna knock [his] ass out with this f**kin’ mic.” The singer expressed her regret once more and then resumed the performance after regaining her calm.

Furthermore, this is another instance where Monica jumped into people’s defenses mid-performance, although this is the most involved one as of late. The last time something similar to this made headlines, two women were fighting at one of her performances. The 42-year-old saw the argument while performing her rendition of her 1995 hit ballad “Why I Love You So Much,” and she asked the DJ to pause the song. She attempted to calm the situation, but ultimately she needed security’s assistance.

“Come on now, I’m singing a love song. I ain’t singing ‘Knuck If You Buck,’ baby, calm that s**t down.” Monica told the two women in an altercation. “Somebody take her, get her a drink on me. Calm down.”
