Jersey, Shahid Kapoor‘s latest release sports movie, suffered a significant decline in box office receipts on Monday. The picture earned around Rs 1.5-1.7 crore on its fourth day, bringing its total four-day income to little more than Rs 15.5 crores. The dip is significant and concerning for a tiny picture like Jersey since it diminishes the film’s prospects of holding the fort during the week. The Hindi remake of Kannada hit KGF: Chapter 2 garnered Rs 8.68 crores on Monday, putting the film up against the fierce competition.

Jersey co-stars Shahid Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur, and Pankaj Kapur’s father. In the film, Shahid portrays an unsuccessful cricketer who picks up the bat again to make his son proud. Mrunal portrays his wife, while Pankaj portrays his coach. According to the HT assessment of the film, Shahid gave a good performance, but the editing might have been better. Gowtam Tinnanuri is the film’s director.
“Jersey took a knock on Monday as it gathered roughly Rs 1.50-1.70 crore net,” according to BoxOfficeIndia.com. The decline is 57%, which is far too large for a picture that did not debut. The picture needed to make Rs 3 crore net on Monday or more to have a chance of making some money in the second week, but it barely made half of that.”

Jersey’s future is bleak since two films set to be released for the Eid holiday—Runway 34 and Heropanti 2–will be released this week. These are only going to affect the Shahid-box starrer’s office. According to the BoxOfficeIndia.com report, “the film has faced rejection primarily because the film does not have much scope with mass audiences, and that audience in the metros which this film may have had before the pandemic is likely to be smaller now in numbers as the pandemic changed viewing habits.”
In comparison, KGF: Chapter 2 has remained at the top of the box office for still another day. The film’s Hindi version made Rs 8.68 crores on Monday, its twelfth day of release, bringing its total earnings to Rs 329.40 crores. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the picture is on track to surpass Dangal’s Hindi-version India receipts, which made it the second-highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
