‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 saw some character deaths including Dr Martin Brenner or Eleven’s ‘Papa’ and Eddie Munson, the fan-favourite. Sadie Sink’s character Max remains in doubt since Vecna killed her but El brought her back to life, and the Hawkins resident is in a coma when the season ends.

However, show makers, the Duffer brothers confirmed they had another character death in mind while speaking to Collider. “In terms of who makes it, who lives or dies… I think there was a version where Dimitri, aka Enzo, didn’t make it”, Ross said when asked about an alternate ending to the series.

He added, “[Enzo] ended up making it”, but “that’s [the most] radical of a departure from the original idea versus what we ended up with.”

The character is played by ‘Game of Thrones‘ star Tom Wlaschiha. He’s a Russian prison guard who takes a bribe to help Hopper escape, but is double-crossed by Yuri, the smuggler, and ends up in a jail cell with the sheriff from Hawkins. The two have their share of conversations and adventures as they face off against a Demogorgon. Eventually, Enzo is instrumental in putting the opportunistic Yuri in touch with his more humane side, which allows the group to escape the prison camp in a helicopter.

The brothers also explained that it is difficult for them to make changes to the finale since endings are often locked from the time of development.

“So when we’re breaking a season, that is one of the first things we’re talking about is, where do we want this story to end up?”, Ross said, adding, “So the ending is always that goal post. Even as we’re breaking Episode 1, we know exactly where we’re going. I don’t think we’ve deviated truly in any season for the finale, we’ve always stuck to it. I believe the case is the same here.”
