The Boston Marathon bombings in 2013 shook the United States, resulting in the death of three people and injuring hundreds. As the upcoming Netflix show delves into the incident, questions arise about whether the attack was a terrorist act.

On April 15, 2013, brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev planted two pressure cooker bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The bombs were detonated 14 seconds and 210 yards apart, killing three people and injuring 264 others.

Following the incident, the Tsarnaev brothers went on the run, leading to a massive manhunt that lasted several days. During the search, they shot and killed an MIT police officer and engaged in a shootout with the police, during which Tamerlan died and Dzhokhar escaped.

The motive for the attack was found to be a radicalized ideology and a desire to support Islamic extremism. The brothers had reportedly read jihadist literature and had become radicalized in the years leading up to the attack.

The FBI classified the incident as an act of terrorism and labeled the Tsarnaev brothers as terrorists. Dzhokhar was eventually captured and charged with using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction resulting in death and malicious destruction of property resulting in death.

During his trial, evidence presented by the prosecution showed that Dzhokhar had acted in a premeditated and deliberate manner, with the intention of causing maximum harm and destruction. He was found guilty on all counts and sentenced to death, a verdict that was later vacated on appeal.

Despite the legal proceedings, questions remain about whether the Boston Marathon bombings were indeed a terrorist attack. Some have argued that the incident was a random act of violence carried out by two individuals, while others maintain that it was a calculated act of terrorism intended to instill fear and terror in the American public.

As the upcoming Netflix show delves into the details of the incident, it is expected to shed new light on the question of whether the Boston Marathon bombings were a terrorist attack or not.
