Tom Burke is an English actor. He is playing the role of Mr. Sutherland in the 2022 British drama Living directed by Oliver Hermanus. The movie is set to premiere as part of the American Film Institute (AFI) Fest in Los Angeles, California on 6th November this year following its first screening at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival in Utah.

The British drama Living stars Bill Nighy, Alex Sharp, Aimee Lou Wood, and Tom Burke in lead roles. The film is adapted from the 1952 Japanese classic Ikiru directed by filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. Nobel laureate novelist Sir Kazuo Ishiguro is the screenwriter of the film. Based in 1953 London, the film showcases a bureaucrat (played by Nighy) who is diagnosed with a fatal illness. The backdrop of the film is post-WW II Britain focusing on a timeline set in the 1950s.

Who is Tom Burke?

Tom Burke (born Tom Liam Benedict Burke) is an English actor born on June 30th, 1981 to actors David Burke and Anna Calder-Marshall. Born in London, Burke spent his childhood in Kent, South East England. The 41-year-old actor is the grandson of writers Arthur Calder-Marshall and Ara Calder-Marshall; and the godson of actors Alan Rickman and Bridget Turner.

He was born with a cleft lip and underwent surgery as a child for the same. At a young age, Burke was diagnosed with dyslexia and struggled to make his mark academically.  He expressed his interest in acting from his adolescent years. Burke attended the Young Arden Theatre in Faversham, England before he went on to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London at the age of 18.

After making his on-screen debut in the 1999 fantasy film Dragonheart: A New Beginning, Burke landed his breakthrough role in the BBC 2003 thriller State of Play. He went on to star in movies such as Cleanskin and Only God Forgives. He also starred in the BBC adventure programme Three Musketeers (2014-2016) as Athos, and as Cormoran Blue Strike in the British crime drama series ‘Strike’ since 2017. He played the role of American director Orson Welles in the 2020 Netflix original movie Mank.
