Ramu, a noted Kannada producer and husband of film actor Malashri, died on Monday due to COVID-19. He was known for producing mostly action films and his first films as producer was 1993 released ‘Goilbar’.

His last project was ‘99’  that was released in 2019 and was a remake of the Tamil film ’96’.

He also made films like ‘Golibar’, ‘Lockup Death’, ‘AK-47’, ‘Kalasipalya’ and ‘Shivajinagara’ that not only became blockbuster but also gave him instant fame.

In his industry, he was popularly known as ‘Koti’ (crore) Ramu for his big-budget of over Rs. one crore for a film 25 years ago. This was new for a small market like the Kannada industry in the 1990s.

He had produced more than 30 films under his Ramu Enterprises banner.

He was married to female superstar Malashree, popular for playing diverse roles in women-centric movies including “Kanasina Rani” (Dream Girl). They have a daughter Ananya and a son.

In his career spanning more than two decades as a producer, he had produced more than 30 movies, of which Malashree had acted in 11.
