Why Jamaica’s Toni-Ann Singh became longest-reigning Miss World in history

Miss World 2019 Toni-Ann Singh is set to crown her successor in Puerto Rico  on Thursday at the 70th edition of beauty pageant . However, the Jamaican beauty queen is the longest- reigning Miss World title holder in history till now.

Toni-Ann, who is the fourth Jamaican to win Miss World, took the 69th Miss World crown in London, England on 14 December. 

Later, The Miss World Organisation announced that it would be postponing the 70th edition of the pageant until 2021 and hence Miss World 2019 Toni-Ann will have to hold onto her crown a little bit longer, until she is able to crown her successor.

“We have made the decision to delay the 70th Miss World Final. Safety is paramount as we continue the fight against Covid 19,” said Julia Morley Chairman and CEO of Miss World in the statement in 2020.

The coronavirus pandemic has halted international and local pageants across the world just like other events. However, the event is back this year and will pick its 70th Miss World.

It will feature participants from 98 countries including Khadija Omar, Somalia’s first hijabi candidate. All eyes are on India’s Manasa Varanasi too especially after her Harnaaz Sandhu’s win at Miss Universe 2021.
