India records 3,79,257 COVID-19 cases, 3,645 deaths in 24 hours

  • A total of 2,69,507 people recovered from the infection on Wednesday
  • A total of 15,00,20,648 people have been administered the first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine in India since January 16

India on Wednesday recorded 3,79,257 cases of
COVID-19, taking the tally of coronavirus infection to 1,83,76,524. A total of 3,645 people
died from the disease on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 2,04,832.

A total of 2,69,507 people recovered from the
infection on Wednesday. With this, a total of 1,50,86,878 have recovered from the
disease. There are, currently, 30,84,814 active cases of coronavirus in India.

On Wednesday, 17,68,190 samples for COVID-19 were
tested in India, the Indian Council for Medical Research said. As of April 28,
a total of 28,44,71,989 samples for COVID-19 have been tested in India.

A total of 15,00,20,648 people have at least the
first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine in India since January 16, when the mass
immunisation drive against coronavirus was kicked off.

Covaxin, developed at Hyderabad’s Bharat
Biotech, and Covishield, manufactured at the Pune-based Serum Institute, are
the two vaccines being administered in the country.

The former is the indigenous jab developed at
Hyderabad’s Bharat Biotech. Covishield is AstraZeneca/Oxford’s jab that is
being manufactured at the Pune-based Serum Institute. A third vaccine, Russia’s
Sputnik V, has also been approved by India’s drug regulator for emergency
use.
