India records 382,315 COVID-19 cases, 3,780 deaths in 24 hours

India on Tuesday recorded 382,315 new cases of COVID-19, the Union Health Ministry’s data released on Wednesday showed. This has pushed the tally to 20,665,148. As many as 3,780 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 226,188.

There are currently 3,487,229 active cases in the country, while 16,951,731 have recovered. A total of 338,439 people recovered from the COVID-19 infection in the last 24 hours across the country.

As many as 294,852,078 samples have been tested for coronavirus till May 4. This includes 1,541,299 samples tested on Tuesday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

India started its mass vaccination campaign against coronavirus in January, the third phase of which began on May 1. Every person of or above the age of 18 is now eligible to get the jab.

As per the latest count, 160,494,188 people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus.

India is currently battered by an aggressive second wave of COVID-19, with more than 300,000 cases and 3,000 deaths being reported for the past several days. The massive surge has induced another crisis in the form of shortages of medical oxygen supply and medicines.
