India records over 90,000 COVID-19 cases, surpasses Brazil to become second worst-hit

India recorded 90,802 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, as per Union Health Ministry’s tally released on Monday. With this, India has breached the 4.2 million mark. It has recorded 4,204,614 cases, till now.
According to the ministry, 1,016 fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours. 71,642 people have lost their lives to the virus, till now.
There are 882,542 active cases in the country. 3,250,429 have been cured/discharged/migrated.
720,362 samples for COVID-19 were tested on Sunday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said on Monday. 49,551,507 samples have been tested, till now.
India has overtaken Brazil and has become the second worst-hit nation, in terms of the number of coronavirus cases. The USA remains the worst-hit nation, with over 6.2 million cases and 188,932 deaths, as per the tally of John Hopkins University.
India is followed by Brazil, with more than 4.1 million cases and 126,650 deaths.
Novel coronavirus was first reported in the Chinese city of Wuhan on December 31, last year. Since then, it has globally infected over 27 million people and killed 882,053 of them.
