India records single-day spike of 96,551 COVID-19 cases, tally crosses 4.5 million

India’s COVID-19 tally shot up to 4,562,415, with 96,551 cases recorded in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health reported on Friday. This is the highest single-day spike in the country.
The death toll stands at 76,271, with 1,209 new deaths tallied in the last 24 hours.
A total of 3,542,664 patients have recovered in the country so far. The number of active cases stand at 943,480.

India has the fastest-growing daily COVID-19 caseload in the world now.
However, the health ministry on Friday said, “There has been an unprecedented surge in COVID-19 recoveries in India. There is more than 100% increase in patients recovered and discharged in the past 29 days.”
“Early identification through aggressive and wide scale testing, prompt and effective treatment in supervised home/facility isolation and hospitals, & enhanced clinical skills of ICU doctors have actively led to a high recovery rate,” it added.

The Indian Council of Medical Research said the total number of samples tested up to September 10 is 54,097,975 including 1,163,542 samples tested on Thursday.
India is now the second worst-affected nation after the United States. The US has reported over six million COVID-19 cases with over 190,000 deaths.
