India registers 93,337 new COVID-19 cases, tally crosses 53-lakh mark

  • A total of 5,308,015 COVID-19 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours
  • The death toll has shot up to 85,619
  • 1,247 new deaths were registered over the past 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, India recorded 93,337 new COVID-19 cases taking the country’s total tally to 5,308,015, the health ministry reported on Saturday. The death toll due to the infection has shot up to 85,619 with 1,247 new deaths registered over the past 24 hours.

A total of 4,208,432 infected people have recovered or have been discharged from the hospital until now in the country. India currently has 1,013,964 active cases of coronavirus. 

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said on Saturday that 62,454, 254 samples tested up to September 18 for COVID-19. Of these, 881,911 samples were tested on Friday.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan in his brief during the Monsoon Session on Tuesday said that India has been able to limit its cases and deaths per million to 3,320 and 55 respectively, while the fatality and recovery rates in the country stand at 1.67% and 77.65%, respectively.
