India reported 10,229 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours
taking the country’s total caseload to 3,44,47,536. Active COVID caseload has
come down to the lowest level in 523 days to 1,34,096, according to the Union
Health Ministry. With 125 new fatalities, the COVID death role rose to
4,63,555.
The daily rise in coronavirus cases in India has remained below
20,000 for the last 38 consecutive days. Less than 50,000 new cases have been reported
daily for 141 days straight.

Active cases now make for just 0.39% of the total number of
infections, which is the lowest since March 2020 when the pandemic outbreak
began. The national recovery rate from COVID-19 is now up to 98.26%. India
reported a decline of 1,822 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
India’s daily COVID positivity rate now stands at 1.12%. The
rate has remained below 2% for the last 45 days. Weekly positivity rate stands
at 0.99% and has stayed below 2% for the last 52 days. The number of recoveries
from COVID-19 has gone up to 3,38,49,785 whereas case fatality rate was 1.35%.

Vaccination numbers in India continue to rise. 112.34 crore
vaccine doses have been administered across the country so far.
The 125 new
fatalities include 65 from Kerala and 18 from Maharashtra.
A
total of 4,63,655 deaths have been reported so far in the country,
including 1,40,583 from Maharashtra, 38,145 from Karnataka,
36,284 from Tamil Nadu, 35,750 from Kerala, 25,094 from Delhi, 22,909 from
Uttar Pradesh and 19,314 from West Bengal.

The
Health Ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due
to comorbidities.
India’s
COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20 lakh-mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on
August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60
lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90
lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
India
had crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June
23.
“Our
figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,”
the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures
is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
