Omicron patients have not required oxygen: Delhi health minister
- Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain said 46 per cent of COVID-19 patients in Delhi suffered from the omicron variant

Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain on
Thursday said the omicron patients in the city has not required oxygen support
since all of them were asymptotic. Jain cited the latest genome sequencing
reports.

Jain also said that 46 per cent of COVID-19
patients in Delhi suffered from the omicron variant of the coronavirus and the
patients included no person with travel history which established the fact that
the variant is spreading in the community at a rapid pace, reported PTI.
“Around 200 patients are in the hospital out
of which 115 have come directly from the airport and are asymptomatic. Out of
the 200 patients, 102 are from Delhi and 98 are from outside. None of those
admitted have any symptoms and have been admitted as a precautionary measure,”
Jain said.

Delhi on Wednesday reported 923 COVID-19
cases with a 1.29% positivity rate. The number of omicron cases is increasing
worldwide but the infection has low severity. Jain, however, said there was no
need to panic since caseload and hospital occupancy are low.
The Delhi government on Tuesday issued
Yellow Alert and reimposed COVID-19 related restrictions across the city. “Decision on imposing more curbs will be taken
in DDMA (Department Of Delhi Disaster Management Authority) meeting after
monitoring the emerging COVID situation,” said Jain.

The yellow alert, which is sounded when the
positivity rate stays above 0.5%, led to a night curfew, closure of schools, colleges,
movie theatres, and gyms. However, the central government offices will function
as per the guidelines issued by the Indian government.

COVID care centre for mothers and children
The Delhi government, meanwhile, converted
the Yamuna Sports Complex into a COVID-19 care centre dedicated to mothers and
children. The responsibility of this COVID-19 centre has been given to the
Shahdara District administration and the Doctors For You organisation. While
speaking to ANI, Rajat Jain, the Chairman of the Doctors for You organisation
said, “The Yamuna Sports Complex has been transformed into a mother-child
health care centre. We have made a pediatric play area here for the Covid-19
infected children”.
