‘Outstanding, magnificent’: India head coach Ravi Shastri’s inspiring speech after Gabba win
- India recorded two back-to-back Test series win against Australia
- The last time Australia lost at the Gabba was in 1988
- India retain the Border-gavaskar trophy after registering a 2-1 series win
The Indian cricket team scripted history on Tuesday when they handed down a 2-1 defeat to Australia and retained the Border-Gavaskar trophy. Not only did the team managed to breach the Gabba fortress, but also discovered a minefield of talent. After the team lifted the trophy, took a victory lap at the Gabba, it was time for the head coach to deliver some inspiring speech for the young team.
In a video uploaded on BCCI’s official Twitter handle, Shastri can be heard praising the team and lauded them for writing a historic comeback.
Listen to the speech here:
Steering India to victory, Shubman Gill’s calculated 91 in the first session of the final day set the tone for the match. Even though the Australian’s kept chipping away at the wickets, the Indians stood tall and played good cricket to crush the hosts in their own backyard.
After a successive fall of wickets, the innings was mended by Rishabh Pant, who scored a scintillating 89 to gift a memorable victory to Shastri.
It was the first time in 32 years that Australia lost at the venue. It was in 1988 that the Australians bowed to the mighty West Indies, led by Sir Viv Richards.
With the series done and dusted, India will now turn their focus towards the Test series against and in England. Virat Kohli, who was on paternity leave, is back for the series and the bowling unit has been pumped up by Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion.
