If you often find yourself standing up and smiling while texting someone or rolled up into an undiscovered shape like a jellyfish on your bed when using social media, this article is for you. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic locked up inside our homes and ruined our lifestyle and schedules forever, this text-addicted generation has been using phones in almost all the wrong postures possible. The practice has now gone from bad to worse with this work-from-home culture.

Most of us are on our phones the entire day and this has caused several physical issues and posture problems like neck and back pain and someone had to address this.

Luckily, celebrity fitness trainer Yasmin Karachiwala, along with physical therapist Dr Hemakshi Basu, took to Instagram to highlight some bad texting postures that we may be unaware of. Here is what she suggests.

How to text while standing up

If you often text while standing, remember this. Instead of craning the neck downwards, we must put our head up, and bring the phone to eye level. Also, our shoulders must be relaxed and straight.

How to text while sitting

The correct way to text while sitting is to be to slide back. We know it sounds tempting but instead of slouching, put the shoulders back, and use the eyes to meet the phone and not the neck.

How to text while lying down

This has to be our favourite as most of us these days enjoy texting and scrolling phones while lying down on our bed. Texting while lying down should involve using a pillow to support the neck, and resting the elbows on a surface, as opposed to letting them stay in the air.

While most of us should be very extremely careful about our postures, the best solution to these lifestyle disorders is regular exercise and a proper diet.
