You took the first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine but got infected afterwards. And now after recovering, you are confused about whether to take the second shot of the vaccine or not?
A person who recovers from the COVID-19 infection, their body is believed to have made the antibodies against the novel coronavirus. In these cases, the antibodies should protect the person from future infection. However, doctors say that it is still unclear how long the immunity against coronavirus will last for the person who has naturally recovered from the COVID-19 infection.

According to PIB Maharashtra, a person, who gets infected after receiving the first dose, should take the second shot of the vaccine six weeks after they have tested positive.
For a person who takes the vaccine, their immune system is supposed to trigger a response against COVID-19 infection, thus, creating antibodies against the virus.
Infectious disease expert Kristen Englund, MD says, “Even though you’ve had COVID-19, it’s still very important for you to get the vaccine.”

“We don’t know how long your immunity will last after you’ve had a natural COVID-19 infection,” Dr. Englund said.
