A 14-day curfew starting Tuesday, 9 pm has been imposed in the state of Karnataka amid rising COVID-19 cases, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced on Monday.

The essential services will be allowed only from 6 to 10 am during the curfew, implemented to curb the spread of coronavirus. The Karnataka CM said that after 10 am shops will close.

“Only construction, manufacturing and agriculture sectors allowed. Public transport to remain shut,” CM Yediyurappa said.

The curfew comes after Karnataka reported the biggest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases at 34,804 on Sunday, with Bengaluru Urban alone accounting for 20,733 infections. The caseload in Karnataka now stands at 1,339,201.

The state had previously reported its biggest single-day spike of 29,438 cases on Saturday.
