Police in Mumbai’s Andheri stated today that they rescued at least 17 women during a raid at a dance bar. They said the ladies were discovered in a hidden basement connected to a make-up area, and that a sophisticated electronic system installed at the dance bar alerted officials to the raid.

Following a tip-off that women were being forced to dance in front of customers, the raid was conducted at Deepa bar in upscale Andheri on Saturday. However, the police team’s search did not go as planned: the restroom, storage area, and even the kitchen (all of which were used by officials to conceal bar girls) were all vacant.

The interrogation of the bar manager, cashier, and server did not provide any results, officials stated, because they continued to deny that dance women were used in the bar.

The officials, on the other hand, were drawn to a giant mirror in the make-up room. An attempt to remove the mirror from the wall was futile since it was discovered that it had been strategically fastened to the wall.

After smashing the mirror with a hammer, a path leading to the secret cellar was discovered inside. Inside the subterranean dungeon, seventeen dancers were discovered. Officials claimed that the concealed basement featured all the amenities, including air conditioning and mattresses.

A case has been filed against the workers, including the manager and cashier of the bar.

Earlier in October, in a similar case, Thane police’s crime department stormed an “illegal” dance club in Ulhasnagar’s sector 3 and “rescued” 17 girls from the premises, as per reports. Meanwhile, 13 staff and ten customers at the bar were arrested and charged under Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as relevant parts of the Epidemic Diseases Act, for engaging in obscene acts and songs.
