A mammoth 200-run partnership between Joe Root and Dominic Sibley helped England reach 263/3 at Stumps on Day 1 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Root, with his hundred, drove England ahead after they lost two quick wickets. Sibley, playing his first Test in India, complemented his captain well with a hard-earned 87 before he was dismissed in the last over of the day, giving Jasprit Bumrah the second wicket of the match.
