4th Test: India loses a quick wicket as Shubman Gill leaves for 0

Indian opener Shubman Gill on Thursday was dismissed shortly
after coming out to open for India, as England scored an early wicket. Gill
left for 0, being dismissed by England pacer James Anderson by the way of LBW. In
the previous Test, he had scored 11 and 15 runs respectively in the first and
the second innings.

The delivery displayed a clever use of the ball by Anderson, as the first two balls from the pacer seemed to travel outside, away from Gill, before trapping the young opener with an incoming ball.

Significantly, with the wicket, Anderson succeeded also in levelling himself with legendary Australian bowler Glenn McGrath as the co-leader in the list of having dismissed most batsman with a duck.

India on Thursday began their first innings, targeting England’s 205-run target. Earlier in the day, Indian spinners Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up four and three wickets respectively. Pacer Mohammed Siraj, too, picked up two wickets.

England batsmen held up significantly longer than in the third Test, as they put up the total based on scores by Ben Stokes and Dan Lawrence, 55 and 46 runs respectively.

With the series levelled at the moment, a draw in the fourth Test would see India qualifying for the World Test Championship finals.+
