Steven Spielberg is an Academy Award-winning director best known for his films like Schindler’s List, Jurassic Park, and Munich.  He earned major international recognition after directing the film Jaws. Steven Spielberg is now back in the limelight for Fabelmans. The upcoming film is a semi-autobiographical work and it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Schindler’s List

It is a 1993 historical drama film directed by Steven Spielberg and is based on the non-fiction novel Schindler’s Ark by Australian novelist Thomas Keneally. 

The film is based on the story of the Holocaust and how a German industrialist Oskar Schindler saved more than thousand Polish-Jewish refugees from the Holocaust by employing them in his factories during World War II.

The filming was completed in Kraków, Poland within 72 days in 1993. The color scheme of the film was kept black and white to portray the horror of the Holocaust. The film is considered Steven Speilberg’s directorial masterpiece.

Jaws

Jaws is a 1975 American film directed by Steven Spielberg and is based on Peter Benchley’s 1974 novel Jaws. The film is based on a storyline of a man-eating great white shark that attacks beachgoers at a summer resort town. Roy Scheider is the protagonist in the film and played the role of police chief Martin Brody who along with a marine biologist and a professional shark hunter hunts the great white shark. The film was a blockbuster and the highest-grossing film until the release of Star Wars in 1977. 

Jurassic Park 

It is a 1993 American science fiction film directed by Steven Spielberg. This was the first film in the Jurassic Park franchise and was based on the 1990 novel of the same name by Michael Crichton. The film follows the story of a wealthy businessman John Hammond and a team of genetic scientists who have created a wildlife park of de-extinct dinosaurs. Sudden industrial sabotage leads to the shutdown of the park’s power facilities and security precautions. Visitors and Hammond’s grandchildren struggle hard to escape from the perilous island located in Costa Rica. The film has five sequels and has won more than twenty awards, including three Academy Awards. In 2018, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress

Lincoln 

Lincoln is a 2012 American biographical film directed and produced by Steven Spielberg. The film starred Daniel Day-Lewis as the United States President Abraham Lincoln. The film takes inspiration from Doris Kearns Goodwin’s 2005 biography Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. The film focuses mainly on the final four months of Lincoln’s life when he fought to abolish slavery and servitude. The film also highlighted his efforts in the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.  The film Lincoln earned $275 million at the box office and won nominations for seven categories in the Golden Globe Award. 

Munich 

It is a 2005 historical film produced and directed by Steven Spielberg. The film is based on the 1984 book Vengeance by George Jonas. The film Munich is based on a real event,  Operation Wrath of God which was the Israeli government’s secret retaliation against the Palestine Liberation Organization after the Munich massacre at the 1972 Summer Olympics.

The film made $131 million worldwide and in 2017, it was named the 16th Best Film of the 21st Century by The New York Times.
