Ahead of state polls, Tamil Nadu govt announces Rs 12,110 crore farm loan waiver

The AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) government in Tamil Nadu announced a waiver of Rs 12,110
crore farm loans availed by 16.43 lakh farmers from cooperative banks, PTI
reported.
Chief Minister K Palaniswami announced the scheme in the state assembly,
bringing it into immediate effect. He also stated that the required financial allocation
would be provided by his government.
He said AIADMK was the only party that
fulfills promises and also comes up with fresh welfare measures. Taking a jibe
at the opposition DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), he said that the party had promised two acres of land,
but failed to implement.

This comes ahead of Tamil Nadu Assembly polls are likely to be held in April 2021
for 234 seats of the Legislative Assembly.
Recently, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attended election meeting in Coimbatore
and Tirupur districts on a three-day visit. He promised to defend Tamil Nadu’s
unique culture.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda also visited Tamil Nadu for
two days, to take account of the party’s affairs and poll preparedness. He also
visited Puducherry for a day during his trip.
