Air India women pilots set to create history by flying over North Pole

An Air India all-women pilots team will set history on Saturday after they’ll arrive in India after flying over the North Pole. The team, led by Captain Zoya Agarwal, would fly over the North Pole on the world’s longest air route from San Fransico (SFO) to Bengaluru.
They will cover a distance of around 16,000 kilometres.
Flying over the North Pole is ‘extremely technical’, according to aviation experts, as per an ANI report. Only the ‘best’ and ‘experienced’ pilots are given the responsibility of completing this route by airline companies.
“Most people in the world will not see the North Pole or even its map in their lifetime. I feel truly feel privileged and humbled by the trust posed in me by the civil aviation ministry and our flag carrier. It is a golden opportunity to command a Boeing 777 inaugural SFO-BLR, one of the world’s longest flight over the North Pole,” Captain Zoya Agarwal, who will be commanding the flight, had told ANI.
“I am extremely proud to have with me experienced women team comprising Captains Thanmai Papagari, Akanksha Sonawane and Shivani Manhas,” she had added.
Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Suri also celebrated the occasion.
“Air India’s woman power flies high around the world,” he tweeted.
