The full moon on June 24 at 2:40 PM EDT (June 25 at 12:10 AM IST) will be a Strawberry Moon, NASA said. The Moon will appear full for about three days around this time, from early Wednesday morning through early Saturday morning, NASA added.

First mentioned in the Maine Farmer’s Almanac in the 1930s, the full moon of July is also called the Honey Moon and Rose Moon. In India, the full moon night of the Hindu month of Jyeshta is known as Vat Purnima.

According to NASA, some Native American tribes described it as the strawberry moon because it was the time of year to gather ripening strawberries.

The moon will look large and gold as it appears above the horizon, Jackie Faherty, an astrophysicist with the American Museum of Natural History told NPR. This means it will not be red or pink.

“While this will be on Thursday for much of the Earth, from India Standard Time eastward to Line Islands Time, and the International Dateline, this will be on Friday morning. The Moon will appear full for about three days around this time, from early Wednesday morning through early Saturday morning,” NASA said.
