US space agency NASA posted an image of the Sun in different wavelengths of light and it went viral on social media. Sharing the image, the space agency mentioned that the US Postal Service has issued a new set of postage stamps, which shows the beautiful picture of the Sun taken from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). It was issued on June 18 during a ceremony held at the Greenbelt Main Post Office in Maryland.
NASA wrote, “The stamps issued June 18 showcase the views of the sun from @Nasa’s Solar Dynamics Observatory Spacecraft. They show the sun in different wavelengths of light, highlighting various types of solar activity seen on the Sun.”

It added, “ Some of these solar activities- like solar flares and coronal mass ejections can create space weather that affects our technology on Earth and in space.”
As soon as NASA posted the picture on social media, it went viral. One of the users wrote, “Wow! Fantastic, while others asked if it is real?” The post has received over 40,000 likes on Instagram.

The Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) was launched on February 11, 2010, and since then it has been collecting data about space and has also provided millions of images of stars. The spacecraft also measures the magnetic field and motion of solar material at the sun’s surface. In the post, the image of the sun is seen in different colours but the Greenbelt Main Post Office says that the colours shared in the image are not the actual colour of the sun.
