Amitabh Bachchan turns 80: Narendra Modi, Ajay Devgn wish Bollywood legend

Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan turned 80 on Tuesday. The film star has been around since the 1970s with multiple hits to his name. Often known as the Shahenshah of Bollywood, the actor has won numerous accolades over the course of his career including a total of 16 Filmfare Awards.
As is custom on Big-B’s birthday, well-wishers from across the industry, politics and everything in between have made it a point to offer their congratulations. Here’s what some of them said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi started off the celebrations, wishing the legendary actor a very happy birthday on Twitter, writing, “A very happy 80th birthday to Amitabh Bachchan Ji. He is one of India’s most remarkable film personalities who has enthralled and entertained audiences across generations. May he lead a long and healthy life.”

Others, like Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi who sits in the Rajya Sabha wrote, “Forever a favourite. A very Happy 80th Birthday to the one and only Sh. Amitabh Bachchan. May god bless you with good health, more abundance, lots of happiness always.”

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi joined in on wishing the 80-year-old legend and wrote, “Warm birthday wishes to the star of the millennium, Padma Vibhushan Shri Amitabh Bachchan ji. The iconic characters he has played and the wonderful shows he has presented have a special place in every Indian’s heart. ”
Bollywood stars like Ajay Devgn also joined in to wish the Kaun Banega Crorepati star. He wrote, “Happy 80th birthday Amitabh Bachchan! Wishing you a splendid year ahead sir. You are actually way ahead of all of us and we’re just striving to live up to the best – YOU.” Devgn and Bachchan were last seen together in the film Runway 34.”

Abhishek Bachchan also joined in on the fun, sharing a post on his Instagram of a special surprise he had come up with for Tuesday’s episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati. He wrote, ”
It took a lot of
secrecy, a lot of planning, a lot of hard-work and a lot of rehearsals
to get it right. But then again, he deserves no less! It was very emotional to be able to surprise dad and celebrate his 80th Birthday at the place he loves the most, his workplace. My
gratitude to the entire team of Sony and Kaun Banega Crorepati for
helping me do this and making tonight’s episode so special for my
father.”
Bachchan’s latest film Goodbye is now in theatres. The filmmakers have decided to cap the ticket prices to Rs 80 on the occasion of his birthday.
