The legendary actor, Amitabh Bachchan, is turns 80 on October 11. The actor has been a part of around 200 films. The charismatic actor had been the recipient of Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2019 which is regarded as the highest award in the field of cinema in India.

Sholay (1975)

Sholay, directed by Ramesh Sippy, tells the story of a retired police officer (Sanjeev Kumar) who hires two criminals, Veeru (Dharmendra) and Jai (Amitabh Bachchan), to catch the brutal dacoit Gabbar Singh  (Amjad Khan). Along with them, Hema Malini and Jaya Bhaduri play Basanti and Radha, the love interests of Veeru and Jai. A classic, Sholay is considered one of the best Indian films.

Don (1978)

Directed by Chandra Barot, Amitabh Bachchan’s Don released on May 12, 1978. Along with Amitabh Bachchan, the film stars Zeenat Aman and Pran in lead roles. The story is about a wanted criminal, Don, who perishes during a police chase. Only DSP D’Silva is aware of his death, and in order to subdue the gang, he trains Vijay, a doppelganger of Don. Vijay, however, is in danger from both the police and members of the gang.

Don (1978) earned around 7 crores in the box office.

Silsila (1981)

Silsila, directed by Yash Chopra, stars Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and Rekha in pivotal roles. The film narrates a love triangle between the the characters played by the three – Amit, Shobha and Chandni respectively. Though it was not a hit, it gradually gained popularity and developed a cult status (www.filmfare.com). 

Black (2005)

Black stars Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji in the pivotal roles and Shernaz Patel, Ayesha Kapoor and Dhritiman Chatterjee in supporting characters. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the movie tells the tale of Michelle (Rani Mukerji), a blind and deaf woman, and her friendship with Debraj (Amitabh Bachchan), a senior teacher who drinks too much and subsequently suffers Alzheimer’s disease.

Piku (2015)

Piku is a Hindi-language film directed by Shoojit Sircar, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irfan Khan in lead roles. It also casts Moushumi Chatterjee and Jishu Sengupta in supporting roles. The plot is a quirky comedy about a daughter’s relationship with her aging father, whose quirks drive everyone insane.
