The Marigaon constituency is currently being held by BJP MLA
Rama Kanta Dewri who defeated Jonjonali Baruah of the Congress in 2016. The
seat, one of Assam’s 126 assembly constituencies, falls under the Nowgong Lok
Sabha constituency.

Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi currently holds the Nowgong Lok
Sabha seat, defeating Rupak Sharma of the BJP in the 2019 General Elections.

2016 assembly election was the first time that BJP was able
to acquire the seat. Since 1951, Marigaon elected mostly Congress, and in several
instances, CPI and independent candidates.
