Basant Panchami marks the onset of spring, according to the Hindu calendar. Also celebrated as Saraswati Puja, the day marks the worship of goddess Saraswati. The goddess signifies education, skill, art, music, and knowledge. Many temples and schools perform religious prayers and ceremonies to seek the goddess’  blessings.

According to mythology, Lord Brahma created the universe on this day. Some also believe that goddess Durga gave birth to goddess Saraswati. The day is considered to be auspicious to start new projects, events, and ceremonies.

Basant Panchami is celebrated by wearing yellow clothing, and making traditional delicacies. The bright colour symbolizes mustard fields during spring. Yellow also depicts knowledge and happiness.
