BCCI meeting on May 29 to discuss upcoming T20 World Cup: Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called for a Special General Meeting (SGM) on May 29 to discuss the COVID-19 situation and measures to be taken regarding the upcoming T20 World Cup, ANI reported, quoting sources. The meeting is being held ahead of the June 1 meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

India is the host for the T20 World Cup, scheduled for October-November, this year.
“The ICC will have a meeting on June 1,” sources told the news agency.
“Before that, we’ll have our own meeting to discuss the COVID-19 situation and what all measures need to be taken with an eye on T20 World Cup,” the sources added.
The Indian cricket board has decided on nine venues for the tournament: Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Dharmasala and Lucknow.

In April, the BCCI had to suspend the Indian Premier League (IPL) as players and coaches tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the international calendar and women’s cricket will also be discussed in the May 29 meeting.
