BJP, allies say no to forming govt in Puducherry, President’s rule impending: Reports

The
union territory of Puducherry is likely to head for President’s rule as the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies have decided not to stake claim to
form the government after V Narayanasamy led Congress-DMK government lost the trust vote on
Monday.

The Lieutenant Governor of the UT, Tamilisai Soundararajan, has recommended President’s rule and sent her letter of recommendation, which is expected to be cleared in the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, NDTV reported.

Calling the Puducherry

BJP said, “At this stage, we will not try to form a government.
However, we are certain that NDA will be voted to power in forthcoming elections under the leadership
of Narendra Modi. The party will have a bright future in Puducherry.”

The statements came at the backdrop of former chief minister V Narayanasamy’s resignation after floor test in the legislative assembly on Monday.

Narayanasamy alleged that some of the MLAs were made to support the Opposition’s stand and so he and his supporters walked out of the house. The Congress-DMK coalition fell short of the majority votes of 14 in the 26-member assembly after six resignations.
