Just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kolkata, BJP and Trinamool Congress supporters clashed in West Bengal’s Howrah district on Saturday, leaving several people injured, PTI reported.
BJP alleged that their party workers were beaten with sticks and rods by the TMC members.
“Our workers were attacked today. If TMC wants this kind of politics, then, an answer will be given to them in the same language,” ANI reported, quoting a local BJP leader.
Several vehicles, including a police van, were vandalised in the incident.
BJP also alleged that one of their party members, named Promod Dubey, was hospitalised after he received a bullet injury in a firing, a claim that is yet to be confirmed the police.
Meanwhile, local TMC leaders claimed that some BJP members were extorting money from shops in the area, following which people of the area protested and roughed them up.
A huge contingent of police has been deployed in the area to control the situation and prevent any further flare-ups.
