Brazil coronavirus death toll tops 100,000

The death toll due to coronavirus in Brazil has crossed 100,000 with over three million people infected by the deadly infection. According to latest tally released by the country’s health ministry, fatalities stand at 100,477 and the number of confirmed cases is at 3,012,412. It further said that 49,970 new cases and 905 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
Brazil is the second worst-affected country by the COVID-19 pandemic after the United States. Meanwhile, Senate speaker Davi Alcolumbre announced four days of mourning in Congress to pay tribute to the country’s 100,000-plus virus victims, AFP reported.
Experts have raised questions over the low rate of testing in Brazil and many of them believe that the number of infections could be up to six times higher than what is being reported by the country. Brazil’s first coronavirus case was reported in Sao Paulo on February 26 and since then the rate of infection has shown no signs of slowing down
The global coronavirus death toll has now surpassed 722,000.
