Varun Chakravarthy’s mystery spin: India’s secret weapon at T20 World Cup?

Knight Riders’ (KKR) mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy represents Tamil Nadu in
domestic cricket. He made his debut for the Indian cricket team in 2021 against
Sri Lanka after having a successful IPL season and impressing the selectors. He
had been under BCCI’s radar earlier as well but could not make it to the final
squad because of failing the fitness test.

He
surprised cricket watchers throughout the country when he took MS Dhoni’s
wicket twice among others. His first dismissal of the former Indian captain was
a display of his character. All Dhoni could do is give a surprised look. The
two had a chat after the game.
It has been
observed that Chakravarthy does not celebrate the wickets he takes and simply
gives a shrug to his teammates unlike other bowlers. In conversation with Andre
Russel in a televised chat he revealed the reason behind doing so. Varun
believes a big celebration would put him off his game as it would result in a
loss of concentration.

In a video
shared by Kolkata Knight Riders he revealed that he is working on becoming the
crisis man for the franchise. Being a dependable player even when the players
around him are unable to play at their best level.
After a
poor start of the season, KKR have managed to get back into their good form. They
have won both of their matches in the second half of IPL 2020 and in a fashionable
manner. They bowled out Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore for 92 runs, Chakravarthy
was the star bowler of the fixture and took three wickets.

With the
T20 World Cup set to take place in UAE, the pitches would be perfect for
Chakravarthy’s style of bowling. The flat tracks allow him to put on a show of
his talents.
