Cap on visitors after viral video of maskless crowd at Mussoorie waterfall

Officials in Uttarakhand’s Mussoorie have put a cap of only 50 visitors at Kempty Falls, a day after a video of tourists flouting COVID-19 norms at Mussoorie’s Kempty falls went viral. According to the report, only 50 people will be allowed to bathe with a maximum permissible time of 30 minutes. The decision was taken by the district administration in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, District Magistrate Iva Ashish Shrivastava told News18.

She said one bather will only be allowed to stay at the fall for 30 minutes, adding an air horn will be used to signal the exit time. The district administration issued the order after the viral videos, showing a large number of maskless tourists at the falls surfaced on the internet.

Even though India is still reporting over 30,000 coronavirus cases everyday, videos and pictures of long queues of private vehicles, overcrowded tourist locations have been doing rounds, raising alarms.

Recently, a similar video went viral on social media, where in a little boy, walking on a crowded street in Dharamshala, scolded people without a mask.

In the video, the kid, wearing a mask, was seen with a plastic stick and he poked passers-by, asking, “Tumhara mask kaha hai?”

There are 460,704 active coronavirus cases in the country, according to the Union Health Ministry on Thursday. India’s death toll has climbed to 4,05,028.

On August 7, 2020, India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark. It crossed the 30 lakh mark on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, 50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and one crore on December 19.
