CBSE class 10 exam: Which are the minor and major subjects?
- Class 10 minor subjects include 66 courses
- 95 subjects were identified as minor for class 12 exams
- Second term exams would be conducted in March-April 2022
The Central Board of Secondary Education announced on Monday the schedule for the upcoming first-term board exams from classes 10th and 12th. While the examination for class 10 commences on November 30, class 12 students will have to wait to till December 1 for the exams to start.
The subjects for the examinations have been bifurcated into two broad categories for the first term examination by the CBSE, major and minor subjects.

The major subjects for the first term exam for class 10 will include:
-Mathematics Standard
-Mathematics Basic
-Computer Application
-Hindi Course A
-Hindi Course B
-Home Science
-Social Science
-Science
-English Language & Literature
All other subjects not mentioned in the above list will be put into the category of minor subjects, according to reports from DNA.

The major subjects for the first term exam for class 10 will include:
-Economics
-Business Studies
-Accountancy
-Physics
-Chemistry
-Biology
-Informatics Practices (New)
-Computer Science (New)
-History
-Political Science
-Sociology
-Psychology
-Geography
-Physical Education
-Home Science
-Hindi Elective
-Hindi Core
-English Core
-Mathematics
A total of 66 subjects have been put into the minor category by CBSE for class 10 examinations, while 95 class 12 subjects were identified in the same bracket. These include both skill and language-based subjects offered by the education board.

Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said in a statement, “The exams will be objective and the duration of the tests will be 90 minutes. The exams will start from 11:30 AM instead of 10:30 AM in view of the winter season. The exams for the minor subjects will be conducted by schools though the question paper will be provided by the board. All these minor subjects are not offered by all schools”, PTI reported.
Bhardwaj added that the second-term examination would be conducted in March-April, 2022 and whether it will be objective or subjective-type will depend on the COVID-19 situation in the country.
